Webshots isn’t a particularly superior image hosting service, but it does have a few perks that may just entice you to sign up.
Webshots isn’t a site that would really draw you in based on its meager amount of features. The really good features are reserved for Webshots Premium members. This includes:
Plus, when you sign in you are automatically taken to a payment screen to sign up for a premium account which can be a real turn-off for many.
So why would you consider becoming a member of this image hosting site if you aren’t interested in paying a fee? Well, Webshots does have a few perks.
Uploading videos and photos to Webshots isn’t difficult and you can do it several different ways. You can download the free desktop software, perform a web upload that allows you to search for files one-at-a-time or you can do a multiple file upload. This photo hosting site supports both PC users and Mac users, too.
The best part about this photo hosting site, though, is the free desktop software. With it you can make calendars, animated photo screensavers and wallpapers without any coding experience at all. This is a great option for anyone who wants to make their own customized gear for their computer, but have little to no technical knowledge.
You can also download animated photo screensavers, calendars, and wallpapers that are made from other member’s photos, as well. The site offers a place for premium members to post their creations for others to use free of charge.
You can’t help but notice the ads begging you to turn your images into printed products all over the Webshots site. If you get tempted and click one of the ads you will notice that they have a very nice online store with a wide selection of products. Ordering prints is surprisingly simple and easy as well.
Webshots is a bit confusing to use. There are buttons and options everywhere. Some of the buttons are for the same option, just in a different area. Why do you need several buttons to do the same thing on the same screen? That’s just it; you don’t.
There are also many obtrusive ads, mostly for Webshots’ products, that pop-up and clog up the site, making it almost unusable.
Webshots is lacking in photo editing options, as well. The only photo editing options that are available are cropping and rotating. Both are new features they just added.
This image hosting service really doesn’t offer much help unless you are a paid member. All the free members get is a Q&A area to search for the answers to their questions. Even if you are a paid member, the only perk is that you get to chat with a live representative.
Webshots is a basic setup that may be a good secondary image hosting site for your photos and videos, especially if you would like to create free screensavers and wallpapers. For a more robust online image hosting service, see Photobucket, Picasa and Piczo.
